Tinker Cliffs
Approaching Tinker Cliffs from the South
Approaching Tinker Cliffs from the South, there is a double blaze, a single blaze on a tree to the right, and another single blaze on a distant tree to the left. Just head into the rock formations.
Here is a blaze on a small tree at the rock formation – continue into the rocks.
Pass the small tree with the blaze and head through a gap in the rocks.
The trail starts to skirt the cliffs on the left.
There is a blaze off the trail to the right. Is this a parallel trail?
Whatever the blaze to the right, a well worn trail goes strait through a small tunnel. See the blaze straight ahead? Ignore the blaze and turn right. |
There is a well worn trail through the tunnel - it runs along the bottom of Tinker Cliffs. I would take the double blaze here to mean turn back to the right.
Heading to the right, as indicated previously, we head directly into the cliff where there is another white blaze that appears to be guiding North along the cliff face. |
Instead, when you turn right prior to the tunnel and head directly to the cliff, make another right turn, essentially doubling back briefly, before turning left up to the top of the cliffs. |
There will be blazes to help you double back, and up to the top of the cliffs.
Once you get up there (its only 10 or 20 meters up), the trail will turn left, leading the hiker North along the edge of the cliffs.
It is much nicer to hike along the top of the cliffs. If you find yourself hiking along the bottom of the cliffs, consider doubling back because the cliffs are about 600 meters long, and there aren't any places where you can easily climb up.
