Here is a series of pictures explaining various turns at Fullhardt Knob.

Approaching Fullhardt Knob from the south; do you see the double blaze on the curved tree?

The trail to the left of the tree heads up to an intersection with a fire road.

The sign at the fire road

The sign says to go right to the shelter; but just so you'll know, that is not the way the AT goes.

Looking to the left down the fire road; this the AT heading North.

It may not be easy to see the white blaze unless you are looking for it.

To the right, the fire road leads to the shelter.

View of the shelter

Fortunately, blue blazes have been painted along the trail to the shelter.

The blue blazes will help to remember this it not the AT.

Coming back down the fire road from the shelter.

Look for the sign and remember that you took a turn here

Follow this young fellow if you want to go straight back South to Troutville.
Go straight to continue North towards the Blue Ridge Parkway.
